Cristiano Ronaldo urged to invest in League Two side Cheltenham Town
Cristiano Ronaldo has been urged to consider a surprising yet potentially shrewd financial move—investing in English League Two side Cheltenham Town. The recommendation comes from leading football finance expert Dr Rob Wilson, who believes the Al-Nassr forward could make a transformative impact on the lower-tier club, mirroring the sensational success story of Wrexham under Hollywood ownership.

Since 2021, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have dramatically reshaped the narrative at Wrexham AFC. Their investment not only propelled the Welsh side to three consecutive promotions, but also captured global attention through the acclaimed Welcome to Wrexham documentary series. This meteoric rise has sparked a new wave of interest in lower-league football investments, prompting experts to highlight similarly undervalued opportunities.

Speaking to Casino Games, Dr Wilson said: “I'd be amazed if Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't invest in an English football team. I would imagine he'll be trying to sniff around getting into a club like Manchester United as a strategic investment or a minority owner somehow. But Cheltenham Town is a massively undervalued asset with great financial fundamentals.”
The Gloucestershire-based club, currently in England’s fourth tier, may not boast the glamour of Ronaldo’s former clubs, but its financial stability and growth potential have caught the attention of experts. “If an investor wants to look at a football club, they would do no worse than have a look at Cheltenham Town Football Club,” Wilson added. “It is really positioned nicely in a list of most attractive footballing assets.”
Dr Wilson previously suggested that tech magnate Elon Musk could also benefit from a stake in Cheltenham, describing such an investment as "pocket change" for billionaires like Musk or Ronaldo. He emphasized that while the financial return may be modest compared to top-tier football investments, the cultural and community impact could be immense.
As Ronaldo continues his playing career with Al-Nassr, preparing to face Yokohama F. Marinos in the AFC Champions League this weekend, speculation surrounding his post-retirement ventures continues to mount. With the allure of English football's grassroots appeal growing, a strategic move into club ownership could be the next chapter in Ronaldo’s legendary career—perhaps beginning at Whaddon Road. SA
