FC Barcelona legend Neymar agrees to join next club

According to respected Brazilian news agency UOL, Neymar, an Al-Hilal striker and former FC Barcelona star, has given his probable next club the green light, citing unidentified sources.

UOL and a Saudi counterpart, Action Ma3 Waleed, said this week that Al-Hilal is considering canceling Neymar's two-year contract, which he signed with the Pro League heavyweights from Paris Saint-Germain in mid-2023 for a cost estimated by BBC Sport to be $97 million (€90 million).

Neymar suffered a serious ACL injury while on international duty for Brazil against Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier not long after the high-profile move to the Middle East, and only returned to action late last month for a brief cameo in the second half of Al-Hilal's AFC Champions League match against Al-Ain.

Neymar played only 30 minutes of a match against Iran's Esteghlal before being replaced due to what seemed to be a muscular complaint.

The player has downplayed the gravity of the prospective setback, claiming it is nothing to worry about.

Meanwhile, it appears like Neymar will resume his career in Brazil in 2025, with UOL reporting that the 32-year-old has agreed to a probable free move to childhood club Santos.

As reported by UOL, the Peixe family, who notably produced Pele, Neymar, and Rodrygo, planned to recruit Neymar in July 2025, but the coup might take place as early as January.

Neymar is apparently in negotiations with Al-Hilal about reaching an amicable termination deal, and he wants to play for Santos once more.

Brazil's all-time leading scorer would have to give up a lot of money to return home, but he would go "where he is wanted" and have a decent chance of improving his form ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which may be his last due to his age.

According to UOL, Santos is considering providing Neymar a one-of-a-kind agreement in which he would be paid a base wage while also earning percentages from commercial businesses, jersey sales, and what Santos earns from new sponsors.

Playing in Brazil would also be more appealing to Selecao national team boss Dorival Junior, and Santos will do everything possible to re-sign Neymar in the coming months.
